Rumbarger Cemetery got a reaction from Dobby in Rumbarger 2015
The City of DuBois is very good to us. Every summer they give us summer kids that mow and weed eat 5 days a week, eight hours a day and we still can't keep up. Without the City of DuBois's help, we would be lost and Rumbarger wouldn't be looking as good as it is. The summer kids free up the board members  to do other projects. It's 8 acres big and there is so much to do there, we are never caught up. Every year we fill 3 flower beds with flowers, we fill 11 urns with flowers, we maintain the mausoleum and the landscaping around it and the Soldiers Circle. We re-cement knocked over graves, trim bushes, pick up trash, rake leaves and paint where needed. We are very grateful to the help the City gives us. Plus several of the City's employees have come up after work and helped us out on their own time. We are 8 volunteers and most of us work full time. The work we do at Rumbarger is mostly done after work and on weekends. The City of DuBois has been wonderful and we really appreciate all they do for us. City of DuBois employees Herm Suplizio, Steve Swope and Scott Farrell have been very instrumental in helping us get to the point we are today.

On April 20th DuBois FedEx employees came to the Rumbarger Cemetery as an early Earth Day event. This is the third year that the employees and YardWorks (814-594-6421) of Brockway, have come to landscape, reset tombstones and generally clean up the cemetery. From left to right: Justin Marchiori, James Burkholder and Cole Bouch from YardWorks, John Geist, Scott Smith, Ryan Morrison, Andy Daugherty, Nick Digilarmo, Greg Weible, Brad Bowser, Seth Ferut, Megan Hubert, Brian Hibbard, Lynette Crawford, Bella Sciamanna and Jason Charles. The Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society would like to thank them for their continued support.

Kudos to the workers and both companies for their efforts and support.  Also to the cementary for allowing them to be recognized for their efforts.  The progress over the past few years has been great and really shows.

What could you possibly do with a 145 year-old cemetery that had been left go for years, neglected and overgrown ?

    RESTORING THE CHILDS FAMILY MAUSOLEUM

Making badly needed repairs and renovations to the 120 year old structure, undoubtedly the most severely ravaged by time, the Childs Mausoleum got a badly needed recasing of block and a new beautiful hand made wrought iron door.

    FINISHING TOUCHES COMPLETE THE RESTORATION

Preservation Society Board member Mel Amrhein replaced the black metal piping around the mausoleum this summer.
The piping had been stolen over the years and Mel replaced it so it looks like it did when the mausoleum was first built.
Board member Melanie McGinnis landscaped the mausoleum with Hostas and Day Lilies this summer, along with help from Zack Ball and Erick Carpino from Landscape One. Brian Coakley of Treasure Lake volunteered to help Melanie make borders around the mausoleum to keep the mulch in.

Thanks so much to Scott Farrell, Ron Miknis, Ed Wells and Greg Vida from the City of DuBois. They volunteered after work to appy a coat of cement to the crumbling mausoleum at Rumbarger Cemetery as part of an ongoing effort to restore the historic site. Zack Farrell also helped out with the project. Zack will use the time he volunteered towards his community service for school. Thank you all for helping out. We really appreciate your time and efforts.

Marty Hrin of Hrin Masonry put the blocks back on the sides of the mausoleum. He did a great job putting the sandstone blocks back on after they sat for over 20 years stacked up by the building.

I don't get past there very often anymore but when I do, the change from 10 years ago is amazing.
Thanks to all involved. I'm sure it wasn't easy.

DUBOIS, Pa. -- A Clearfield County cemetery got some additional attention from local volunteers who spent their day cleaning up one of the area's oldest cemeteries instead of handling packages.

The Rumbarger Cemetery is the oldest burial ground in DuBois and time has certainly taken its toll on the property. In an effort to restore and cleanup some of the property, volunteers with FedEx Ground spent their Monday working to clean up the property.

FedEx Ground Senior Manager Jeff Butterworth said employees worked to clean up debris, weed and seed grass and straighten up headstones and walls that had fallen over during the past few years.

Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society President Carol Laughlin said having the extra help from volunteers is a big help.

"They're very enthusiastic and willing to do everything," Laughlin said. "We have to think up things for them to do. They're very good."

Butterworth said the volunteer effort in DuBois is part of a larger FedEx event, Ground Green Week, where employees help with restoration projects in the communities where they live.

"It's all volunteer work [at the cemetery], and it's a lot on them," Butterworth said. "We figured we could give them the day off, get up here, it's a historic site in DuBois, and just be part of it."

Laughlin said any help is always appreciated.

"There are a lot of important people here and I'm sure at one time it was absolutely a beautiful place and it

Interesting story from 1924, 88 years ago. People now are always saying how people do crazy things now in the news and it didn't happen with the older generations. It sounds like people were just as violent back then!

ATTORNEY VICTIM OF ATTACK MADE YESTERDAY A. M.

    H. A. Moore, prominent lawyer and Secretary of the DuBois Cemetery Company, was brutally assaulted yesterday morning in Rumbarger Cemetery by Special Officer Russell Love for the City of DuBois, and placed under arrest on a charge of assault and battery himself, and forced to spend an hour in the city lock-up, later being released for a hearing before Alderman D. D. Neff.

It is alleged that previous to being assaulted by Officer Love, Mr. Moore did not address a word to the officer and had no controversy with him and that before he realized what was being done, Mr. Moore was struck by the officer
