  1.  Perhaps the Police are shorthanded, and can call the PCG in if they are in the area to help out when needed.  Glad to see them working together and helping out.  Its so hard to get recruits nowadays.  I do wish the road kill was picked up and disposed of on a timely basis.  I also know PCG doesn't come out to dispose of rabid animals most of the time.  We had a rabid raccoon under our steps.  My hubby called the PCG.  They told him what to do.  My hubby had to get it with a snare, then put it in a cage, and shoot it.  Then had to bury it.  We then had to sanitize everywhere the coon had been.  Could be that the PCG is shorthanded, too.  This is just my opinion, take it for what it is worth, but I feel the Police and Game Wardens are not paid enough.  There are a lot of positions in the area that pay way more.  Hence, the shortage in these fields. When folks are risking their lives on a day to day basis, they should get paid for it.  You couldn't pay me enough to do their jobs.

  2. I guess I'm just old fashioned, but where I come from, when a woman marries, she takes her husband's last name and that's that.  I was willing to do that and to me, its part of marriage.   I do see some couples that do hyphenated names where they combine their two names, but when hyphenated, it makes one name, really. That's OK to me.  Some folks don't agree, I'm sure, but that's just my thoughts.

  3. Over the last few weeks we have had folks graduating from colleges, grade schools, and high schools locally.  I just want to say job well done to all of them.  Whether they were in the top of the class, or in the middle or bottom gradewise, they should all feel proud that they made it and met the requirements to have that diploma, certificate or degree.  For some, it may have been more of a struggle just to get through, due to circumstances in their lives, but they did it!

I had the opportunity to attend some local awards ceremonies for graduates, and I have to say that we as a community have a lot of faith in our grads!  The scholarship monies available in the local and surrounding areas was plentiful, and individuals, organizations, groups, and employers handed out a large amount to offset college costs.  That should give our students the confidence knowing that their area is investing in them and believes in them!

I have also noticed that not as many graduating seniors apply for the scholarships available.  It is extra work, but I advise kids to do so.  If a student walks away with an award of $1,000 per se, that is $1,000 less they have to pay.  It's no small amount!  I also advise kids to follow the instructions carefully when filling out the forms.  One can be disqualified for something as simple as forgetting to include one's grade transcript.

Best wishes, Godspeed, and good luck to all!  Go make your mark on this world!  We are proud of you!

  4. One time I had a scary situation going on with my chimney.  I so appreciated the firemen and women who came and investigated things and got things to a safe situation.  I could have lost my home.  I will forever be indebted to them, and I appreciate our fire companies.

  5. Only have one complaint about the College World Series being here.  Some folks I know had reservations at a local hotel for this week to visit relatives.  They didn't come for the World Series.  When they tried to check in at the hotel, they were denied.  The hotel had cancelled their reservations!  Now I'm assuming this was because of the reservations needed to accomodate the teams playing here this week.  I could be wrong.  But it seems like it's just too much of a coincidence, and I've heard of this type of thing before.

If we had been taught as children to avoid sugar, flour and anything processed, then we would all have been healthier.

Processed food not only contain chemicals, but they lack nutrition which is why so many of them have vitamins added.  However. the type added are almost worthless.

You have to eat natural food such as comes directly from your garden in order to stay healthier as you age.  Natural foods are building blocks.  Skip the bottom row in earlier life and it will all come tumbling down in years to come.

So true.  I don't think our parents knew as much as we do now about vitamins, health, etc.  Now that we know more, we can do better.

  7. Definitely don't want a self driving vehicle.  Nor artificial intel.  And yes, accidents.  They haven't perfected those vehicles at all.  There are too many decisions that need made while driving and too many unexpected things that can happen on the road that have to be managed by the human brain.

DuBois VFW Post 813 is apparently closed by order of the VFW Commander Henry Mannella and there is a locksmith outside.

There could be any number of reasons for this.  There have been other post closings due to low membership and not attracting today's vets.  Originally VFW posts were to be a place where vets could go and congregate with others in the same boat, not so much a place for drinking.  Also, financial reasons is another reason to close.  Investigations are another reason to close as well.  With recent local events, I think a lot of organizations have been awakened to the consequences of this type of thing.  Sometimes there needs to be a good house cleaning.  I imagine we will all hear about what is going on soon enough.

There is no legitimate reason for the large increases. The real reason is a joke. The Liberals got rid of Trump and replaced him with Braindead Biden.

    It's as simple as that.

They stopped worrying about America citizens and where their energy came from. That started the ball rolling then came the climate change BS.

Hang on for the unintelligent Liberal ride to hell.

    You have some valid points.

  10. I think there will be some valuable lessons learned after this is all over.  And yes, I think Fedup is right about the truth coming out and not being near where people claimed in the beginning.  It looks to me, though, that more documentation of agreements would have been a good idea.  Sounds like there were some "understood" or "verbal" agreements that should have been documented.  I worked for a organization once, where we were under audits constantly from various organizations.  I remember the main thing was "documentation."  It was a priority.  That way, there were never any questions as to what was done, why it was done, and who was involved.  I'm of the thinking that a person is innocent until proven guilty.  I'm not on any side.  I don't even know the City Manager personally. We are all going to have to wait and see how this plays out.

  11. I'm not surprised.  Everything has gone up.  Price of doing business has gone up, so they have to raise the rates.  How long has it been since there was an increase?  Maybe awhile, thus the bigger increase.  I am involved with various businesses and understand how costs have increased.  I hate to see rates go up, but businesses have no choice.  If not, they suffer or close doors.  Just got the health insurance increase for my business yesterday, 16% for next renewal.  That means $1600 a month, and $19,200 more a year.  Some businesses got a 24% increase.  I feel fortunate!

  12. Wow!  That is a weird egg.  Now I want to know where you got it so I can avoid the place.  I always get farm eggs from neighbors, but once in a while I go to the store for them.  You can message me to tell me.
