Administrators Pompeii Posted June 7, 2023 Administrators Share Posted June 7, 2023 DEP: Canadian wildfire smoke creating unhealthy pollution levels for all Pennsylvanians Smoke from the wildfires in Canada is creating unhealthy pollution levels for the whole state on Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said. The DEP issued a code red air quality alert for Wednesday. Everyone is encouraged to limit their outdoor activities, especially children, older people and those with respiratory conditions. A code red is when the air is considered unhealthy and while the general public may experience health effects due to this level of pollution, sensitive groups will feel greater effects. Northerly winds will bring more waves of wildfire smoke into the region causing hazy skies and fine particle matters will be elevated to or near unhealthy range as a result. Residents are asked to avoid open burning and using gas-powered lawn and garden equipment. ❗ Today is a Code Red Air Quality Action Day across Pennsylvania. Yes, there's a LOT of acreage there, but they can cover it before, or cover it after! In the US, they do not clean forests by controlled burns or build fire lines before a potential fire. Forest fires are inevitable. If they put 1 100th of the time and money into preparation that they use cleaning up the aftermath, the smoke wouldn't be threatening the green nuts.
