This is a bit off-topic but wanted to share. Years ago we lived in the DC area and there is a beautiful park downtown with lots of ponds and loads of tourists. I wanted to construct a Pekin Duck like the Afflac Duck you see in the commercials. And...also add a working bill so I could hide behind a tree and have him talk to the visitors. They would exclaim - "Did you hear that?" but I would have my duck swim away 'till the next victim. Thought this would be so cool.

We have had chickens for about 4 years now.  Add a few different varieties each year.  There are fun to watch grow up!

My wife has 7 chickens.  Couldn't tell you what kind of chickens, but they're free range.  They produce more eggs than I know what to do with and the neighbors like that.  I've been informed that we're getting milk goats later this Spring.  I'm fine with all the animals as long as it's not a cat.  I hate cats!

Duck eggs make fabulous noodles, and scrambled, they are just beautiful, light and so bright yellow.

The thick whites make meringue worth the calories, and coconut custard with duck eggs can't be beat.

Every yard should have a couple of chickens with proper care.  Just turning them loose to roam everywhere isn't taking very good care of them because every carnivorous critter out there loves a good chicken.

Plus, they are simply the very best fun.

Once my customers get hooked on a real yolk with thick whites, they get mad at me in the winter when they have to go back to the watery store boughts. I've heard duck eggs are the best for baking

landfillguy              I was at a Steeler game vs Oakland back in the late 90's at the old Three River Stadium in Pittsburgh. Got to talking with a few young fellows from Oakland that flew in to watch the game. Keeping in mind that it was a pleasant fall day (temps in the low 50's) when one of the guys went to the restroom he come back and told his friends that the restrooms actually had heat in them. He was surprised about that. I told him that in some places in Pa we actually have running water as well.

I come to the landfill to take a break It started as a hobby, and it's still a hobby, but chick and egg sales almost break even with the cost of feed, so it's a self sustaining hobby

Ok, some of you know I found this forum after the landfill collapse. I've made some new friends here, and the one thing I know better than landfills is chickens. Seems like a few of you guys have them, too, so let's hear what you have.
I started with 4 Buff Orpington chicks in 2010. They just looked so cute at the feed store when we were buying our garden seeds. My wife and I just really enjoyed raising them. Fast forward to now, and I have 6 pens, 2 incubators, 4 brooders, and somewhere between 100-130 birds depending on what time of year it is. We breed Easter Eggers, Cuckoo Marans, and Silkies as pets and layers, and we breed some of the best Black Copper Marans in SC for eggs and for show.

    Who else has chickens?

The wreck of the Red Arrow occurred nearly 70 years ago and to this day remains as both a story of horror and spirit. (WJAC)
ALTOONA -- The City of Altoona has long been known as the Railroad City. Millions of people who lived there, worked there or were just passing through were there because of railroads.
Altoona is also home to one of the most celebrated railroad accidents in American history. The wreck of the Red Arrow occurred nearly 70 years ago and to this day remains as both a story of horror and spirit.
The horror began in the early morning hours of Feb. 18, 1947, with the Red Arrow on its way from Detroit to New York City.
While approaching Bennington Curve, in Gallitzin, near the highest point on the Pennsylvania Railroad in the Keystone State, the train exceeded the safe speed of 30 mph by going what many figured to be around 65-70 mph.
The excessive speed caused one of the finest passenger trains in the country to plunge over a steep cliff and fall to the valley floor below. Incredibly, only 22 people died out of the nearly 200 on board.

Dogs don't much like slippery surfaces so gator might have something with the carpeting.

How about just a ramp in general like they have at the dog wash.  Could possible build one out of treated lumber and use some outdoor carpet on it. At the end just screw on a piece of angle iron or something similar to support the end on the vehicle. A 4 wheeler ramp would work good also just add some plywood and carpet. Now if you knew a welder who could cut it in sections and weld some hinges on it to fold up to take it with you.

I saw pet steps at Kmart Saturday when I was there. I can't remember how much they were. They were in the Isle with the pet food. Seemed sturdy and it was only 3 steps indo believe. I was looking at them for my weiner dog. He has issues with steps too.

Dobby reacted to Pappy in Some bird nature pics. Looking out my window
Thought I would give some people something to look at this morning. I took some pictures from a new little camera I bought when working up at Cape Cod. It's a little Cannon PowerShot SX610. These are looking out my window at the bird feeders. I did go outside also and stood by the feeders for a few pics. Even had a little squirrel enjoying him or herself. i will start another thread with some more work pics from cape cod also. I had the opportunity to go and I volunteered to go. I probably would never had gone to that area as I rally had no desire. I am glad I went though it was a rewarding experience both in seeing the area and in gaining more work experience.

Thanks also to Steve for the resize links he has. These pics were way to big to resize(7 meg and up) with my normal one I use (shrink pictures) Steve has a link for, so I used another one called B.I.R.M.E. and I like this one a whole lot more. It will do a batch of pics very quickly. I will use this one from now on.
