So I would assume that Jen Jackson, Elliott Gelfand, and Pat Reasinger plan to pass on the free insurance if they win since they want to clean DuBois up?

Jen Jackson has already said that she will pass on the insurance and will donate her salary. I will check on the others. I think more questions will be asked on how the insurance program was added for the DuBois Council since it should of been publicized .

If you offer free insurance, someone will come and fill a seat just for the free insurance. Insurance is a huge expense especially to those living on a shoe string. If you can get free insurance for attending a meeting 12 times a year why not????

True it will make the DuBois Council position more desirable.(Especially paid deductible)   Too bad it was a secret benefit that was not publicize. Depending on how the health care benefits were added to the council it might have broke laws.

  3. Sandy Township Supervisor Kevin Salandra was one of the first to recognize the city finances were not right. During the consolidation process the last year he continued to ask hard questions that the city refused to answer.

DuBois Council then conspired to have him (and township manager Shawn Aubaugh) removed from the consolidation process by unilaterally  picking a new Transitional Committee.( Toni Cherry was chosen to be on this new Committee.)

Mr Salandra  is on the ballot this May for reelection. Please choose wisely on who will best represent Sandy Township.

Just a thought, if Waste Management has that kind of money, why couldn't they lower their rates to all their current citizen customers?

I wait, they would have to please a large group of people with their ability to do a good job.

Why suffer all that to make money when all you need to do is satisfy a few people.

Welcome to your voted for government. It allows it, it promotes it and it readily accepts it

How is your paycheck working out for you today?

Waste Management's payments to Sandy Township benefits all the taxpayers since it is part of the yearly budget. Not sure  who in DuBois City first decided to use the money as a unaudited piggy bank.

Should be a interesting Council work session on Thursday.

With the situation with Dubois, the citizens of Sandy need to become informed on who maybe running.   One of the candidates running  who announced the Chairman of the Consolidation  Committee( Mr. Whitaker).   But how do you be a chairman when you dont call regular meetings?  And you listen to a solicitor who is imbroiled in one of the  biggest governmental management scams in years in this area. And  when you do, you dont inform a Supervisor(Salandra) and the Township manager.?  So much for the Kubayah togetherness.   Politics as usual. The previous statements have already been in the public news.  And now you want to run for Township Supervisor? That lack of leadership in that position of the future of this area would be a disqualifier in my opinion . ( And the arrows will be coming soon from a certain group at this comment)The voters need to learn the  real reason  WHY these individuals are running and who is supporting them.   And  being a member of the clergy doesnt exonerate you from being vetted for office.  The people need to be very attentive to the candidates. The area now cant afford bad decisions in this huge mess..

Plus Supervisor Salandra has been saying for years that something was rotten in the DuBois City government.

    $270,000 seems quite excessive.

It is kind of a catch 22.  Since he has not been proven guilty, let's assume he was operating within his contracted and legal capacity.  He would expect the City to defend his actions as an employee. Of course, his tax evasion charges defense should be funded by him.  If he is found guilty, part of his sentencing should be to pay back the city.

I do find it concerning the AG and government can confiscate your assests before you are proven guilty.  Freeze, yes.

The solicitor was wrong to state the city was paying legal bills because he had no money.  She made it sound as a personal thing.

If Herm had a contract as manager of Sandy Township, he would of been fired last April and no legal fees paid. Only a corrupt organization would pay his legal fees.

    Garbage Pick-up raised$10.00??

For where? 10 year contract for DuBois signed in 2018

Seniors in the city currently pay $12.50 per month, while seniors in Sandy Township pay $18.80 and $17.50 in Reynoldsville.

Regular residential customers pay $19.50 per month in the city, the same as in Reynoldsville; Sandy Township residents pay $21.80 per month.

I didn't listen to what Jen said but I have her rather viscous emails where she admitted removing spring flowers from the pots and disparaged 26 years of hard work on the part of some dedicated volunteers. Volunteer who did what no one else would do free of charge plus having bought all the pots and plants. We have tens of thousands of dollars in these areas over the years.   Also the police report of her harassment. Want to see them? Maybe our budget for each area?

The Beautification Committee has 2 members Eddie Tate and Jen Jackson. This came from the interim director of the Downtown Group. Are they going to take over the care of the City Building, the library and Pershing Lot and the 4 beds on the walkway? DTEGC might be on the small side because we ask our member to work, but we have quite a few more members than that.  What if we take our "sour grapes elsewhere? Those areas would be overgrown with weeds in 2 months. We would have welcomed the help if she had asked. She didn't.  We stay out of politics but anyone who would attack a group of volunteers who have asked for noting and have given so much of their time to beautify the community is pretty low. Proof in writing. I have it. Opinion isn't fact.

Oh, and if anyone is saying that we do a lousy job check the pictures of the beds on our facebook page.

The much disparaged Pershing Lot on which we do such a lousy job.

This is small potatoes compared to the money that allegedly is gone!

I hear "the establishment" is mounting a smear campaign against at least one of the write-in candidates for "sins" committed over 30 years ago.

The woman owned her mistake--which turns out to not be a mistake given the outcome.  And has been honest and forthright about other mistakes or missteps she has made.

The only perfect human died on the cross.

Shame on those that would attempt to disparage her.  I would rather work with someone that can own their mistakes than attempt to cover them up.

Especially complaining  about having a property she owns reassessed. Many property owners have done that and you are stupid not to do it.

DuBois’ contract with Wasted Management definitely needs looked into to see if there was anything illegal in it considering the 60 grand kickback.

According to testimony from DuBois's Finance Officer the garbage payments went directly into the community days account which the finance officer stated the city did not review any of the community days account and were not included in the City's computerize financial system. The auditors only pulled info that was included in the computerize financial system.

What is Sandy’s proposed infrastructure project?

How was going to be funded originally?

Construction of the new sewage treatment plant is definitely needed.

The loss of the $200,000 grant won’t stop it.

#1 Sandy Township Platt Road Wastewater Collection and Conveyance Project.

#2 Funded by loans plus grants

$278,435  funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission will combine with state and local money to extend public sewer access to 4 new businesses and 93 households in Sandy Township.

HUD announces $875,000 Loan Guarantee for Pennsylvania Wastewater Collection and Conveyance Project

    Dec. 22, 2022 • Original Press Release

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced a $875,00 loan guarantee to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the Sandy Township Platt Road Wastewater Collection and Conveyance Project. The loan guarantee, offered through the Section 108 Loan Guarantee Program (Section 108), will be used to finance the extension of sanitary sewer lines to a 400-acre site that is proposed for new development in the Corbet Industrial Park. Though two businesses already operate in the park, they currently rely on temporary sewage disposal facilities, which are not sustainable and could deter or limit the growth of business. This project will benefit people with low- and moderate-incomes (LMI) by creating job opportunities. The loan requires that at least 51 percent of the full-time equivalent jobs are held by or made available to people with low and moderate incomes.

In light of recent developments, is there any possibility of the current trash contract being opened up?  The powers that be have essentially tied us to a monopoly as things stand currently.

The last time I needed to rent a dumpster for a home improvement project I was limited to using the "big company" because of my address.

The garbage contract was begun in 2008 and has been renewed twice. It runs out in 2028. At some point Advance Disposal started donating 60 grand a year to the city that the city kept in a non audited account.

I think you are stuck with the  current company.
