Losing a loved one is bad enough but to add more grief to the family

You know it is quite an ordeal to lose a loved one not to mention two in less than a year but even worse when someone steals money out of their bank account somehow getting their debit card info.

My mother-in-law passed who was married to Mr. D years back. The person did this before my wife took possession of her purse and wallet. They used this at an online Casino. Setting up an account there on the 23rd the day she died. This is just plain evil.

We will be talking to the police and filing charges tomorrow or Tuesday.

Then on top of that her landlords who were never nice people say they don't plan on returning her deposit. We even told them we would have her stuff out before the end of the month and it mostly is. We plan on cleaning everything even though it is clean now but will still do it and we will be taking pictures. The wife was very rude also to my sister in law who called.

I hope all these people get the karma that they deserve. God will be waiting for them to pass judgement on their sorry souls.

Rant over.

Yes, these people will get their just rewards.  Unfortunately you will probably not know about it.  Your Mother-in-law's Debit Card money will be returned by the bank because someone got past their security measures.  Just notify them.  Talk to the Magistrate about your options to get the rent deposit back IF you are the Executor.  That is their responsibility.

I'm sorry for your loss, and sorrier still that on top of it you have to deal with thieves.  Tell the landlord that you want a written reason for not returning the Deposit.  If not then you can safely assume that they have no reason other than greed.  Pass the word.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  When my father died, someone set up a credit card account in his name and tried to change his address.  It was someone in Florida.  Thieves who read obits and try to steal identity do it every day.  It was very disheartening to have to go through that while grieving.  That's why it is so important to notify social security and all other agencies ASAP as well as closing accounts, so that you don't lose anything.  It's also a good idea not to publish the birthdate or address in the obit.  Sad to say, that can be obtained on the dark web, though.  But we don't want to make it easy for them.  My heart goes out to you.  May God help you in these hard days.

Farmers National Bank is joke. Tried to get the fraud department to do something but they said the main person on the account had to contact them. Ummm hello we told you she passed away. I think we will pull all our money out of all our other accounts and move them to another bank. Farmers just merged and it is terrible.

Never had that problem with them before but now you get someone from India instead of the main branch like before. I would suggest others do the same. They were suppose to call back today but never did.

They were also supposed to stop all transactions but another $100 went to the Casino. So that is $610 out of the account. What a farce.

We have already done all this but they got the account numbers beforehand. While I do not want to believe this but most likely a relative who had her card number and as soon as she died started to use it not realizing my wife was also on that account. Problem is it is the debit card they are using and it is in my mother in laws name but gets taken out of the joint account. The bank was supposed to shut it off but apparently did not.

File a police report immediately.  Make sure to notify the bank that a police report has been filed.  Also, when dealing with the bank and the main account holder is deceased, make sure to have a death certificate on hand to present to them.  I had to have the death certificate for my mother for every single account she had in her name.  I think by the time I was finished I went through approximately 30 copies.

My mother in law died with my wife and a relative listed on the bank account.  My wife was able to close the account herself with the relative not being involved in closing it.

Yes we are planning on closing it but it was the weekend when we noticed this and could not close it and I did transfer most of the money out into my wife's other account letting the other family members to know why but have had to transfer some back as to not get overdraft charges and to see if they can reimburse what was stolen.

Also the bank did take care of the $100 from yesterday when I woke up this morning it had disappeared.  I broke my rule last night as well. I promised myself that I would not post right after getting angry and not in the right mindset. haha well I broke that last night when I could not sleep because of the pain I had all over so I got online and I should not have. Angry, still grieving and in lots of pain and my finger filters come off and I tend to rant.  haha.

Although it did give me a chance to try out my new computer I ordered. My other one quit working last month or so and I have been waiting  for the new build to arrive which is why I have been absent from here. I finally figured out how to turn the light out on the computer and keyboard. It was like a disco in the room. The water cooled is much quieter though I have to admit. I did lose all my memes and bookmarks. Yes I know I preach to people about backing up but then I do not do it.

BTW the ladies down at farmers are excellent people I was not ranting about them it was being sent to a foreign country and not being able to understand the person we were talking to and that they could not understand what dead means. I mean how can she come to the phone. I guess today she could. we could always bring the phone over to the urn but I doubt she will answer their questions.

I am keeping my accounts for now and see how this gets handled this week but I am sure my wife will let them know about our dealings with the fraud department.

Police have been notified and Chief Bell will look into it after talking to the DA. I still find it odd calling him that after knowing him when I coached Tee Ball and him growing up with my son and knowing his family well. He is genuinely a very good guy and Brockway is lucky to have him. I know he enjoys his job and the people in the town.

Hopefully it works out for you.  Chief Bell does seem like he is doing a good job in Brockway..  I think Reynoldsville is missing him.

Yep he is.

So the Bank reimbursed all the fraudulent charges so that was good. We finally got a hold of them tonight and she must have been from Pennsylvania and she was very helpful unlike the people form India.

Once you tell them to shut it down, they are liable for anything else taken out of it.  Put you demand in writing and give it to them.  Record and date every communication.  Eventually they will get it all straightened out but keep them aware that you are watching and will report what they do.

Keystone Bank in town let another person overwrite $600 from my father's account on which I was the executrix. When I called them to tell them about it, they told me to pay for the overdrafts!  Fat chance of that!!  I told them to go fly a kite and opened another account immediately.  Never heard from them again.
